Description

The 42‑Day Tomato is celebrated as one of the world’s fastest‑maturing tomato varieties. It’s a compact determinate plant producing small (~1 oz), bright red, cherry‑sized fruits with excellent, sweet flavor and very few seeds—a perfect choice for containers or small gardens in both warm and cool climates.

When to Plant in the UAE

  • Start Indoors: Sow seeds early to mid‑August in a warm, bright location—ideally with temperatures of at least 24 °C for good germination.

  • Outdoors (Transplant): Move seedlings outdoors in early October, when nighttime temperatures consistently stay above 15 °C.

  • Direct Sowing (Optional): You can also direct sow outdoors in early October if the soil is warm and frost risk is gone.

This schedule fits the UAE’s fall‑winter planting window, helping you enjoy some of the earliest harvests of the season.

Planting Tips & Timeline

  • Sun & Soil: Choose a site with full sun (6–8 hrs/day) and well‑draining, fertile soil.

  • Planting Depth & Support: Plant seedlings deep—up to the first set of leaves—for strong roots. As a determinate variety, minimal support is needed, but a small cage can help if grown in containers.

  • Spacing: Space plants 90 cm apart in rows, with about 45 cm between individual plants to allow good airflow.

  • Watering: Keep soil evenly moist; avoid oversaturation to preserve flavor and reduce fruit cracking.

  • Fertilization: Apply a balanced fertilizer at planting, then use phosphorus-rich feed as flowers and fruit begin to develop.

  • Harvest Timeline: Expect ripe fruits 42 days after transplanting. With such fast maturity, you’ll be among the first to enjoy fresh homegrown tomatoes in the season.
