Description

Matt’s Wild Cherry Tomato is a prolific heirloom cherry tomato variety known for producing masses of tiny, round, bright red fruits with an exceptionally sweet and fruity flavor. The bite-sized tomatoes grow in large clusters along vigorous, sprawling vines, providing a continuous harvest throughout the growing season. They are perfect for snacking straight from the garden, salads, lunch boxes, appetizers, and fresh garnishes. This indeterminate variety is vigorous and benefits from strong support, although it can also be allowed to trail or sprawl.

When to Plant in the UAE

  • Indoors: Start seeds indoors in August.
  • Outdoors: Transplant seedlings in early October, when temperatures begin to cool.
  • Avoid: Peak summer heat, as extreme temperatures can interfere with flowering, fruit set, and overall plant growth.

Planting & Care Tips

  • Light & Soil: Grow in full sun in fertile, loose, well-draining soil enriched with compost and organic matter.
  • Depth & Germination: Sow seeds approximately 0.5–1 cm deep. Germination typically occurs within 5–10 days under warm conditions.
  • Spacing: Space plants 60–75 cm apart, with 90–120 cm between rows. Allow additional room if the vines will be allowed to sprawl.
  • Watering: Keep the soil consistently moist during establishment, flowering, and fruit development. Avoid irregular watering and waterlogged conditions.
  • Feeding: Add compost before planting and apply a balanced organic tomato fertilizer every 2–3 weeks during active growth. Increase potassium during flowering and fruiting to support abundant fruit production.
  • Support: Provide a strong trellis, cage, or stake. The vigorous vines can become very long and heavily loaded with clusters of small tomatoes.
  • Pruning: Minimal pruning is required. Remove lower leaves or selected suckers when needed to improve airflow and manage the vigorous growth.
  • Harvest: Fruits are generally ready approximately 60–75 days after transplanting. Harvest when the tomatoes are fully red, juicy, and slightly soft.
  • Harvesting Tips: Pick individual fruits or clusters regularly. Frequent harvesting encourages the plant to continue producing throughout the season.
