When to Plant in the UAE

• Outdoors: Direct sow seeds in early October and again in early March for the best results.

Planting & Care Tips

• Light & Soil: Plant in full sun in fertile, well-draining soil. Avoid heavy, waterlogged soil.
• Depth & Germination: Sow seeds 3–5 cm deep. Germination typically occurs within 7–14 days.
• Spacing: Space plants 15–20 cm apart, with 45–60 cm between rows.
• Watering: Keep the soil moderately moist during germination, flowering, and pod development. Once established, avoid excessive watering.
• Feeding: Add compost before planting. Avoid high-nitrogen fertilizers, as chickpeas fix their own nitrogen and excessive nitrogen can encourage leafy growth instead of pod production.
• Support: Bush plants generally do not require support, although light staking can be useful in windy locations.
• Harvest: Fresh green pods can be harvested approximately 90–110 days after sowing. For dry chickpeas, allow the pods to mature and dry on the plant before harvesting.
• Harvesting Tips: Pick green pods when they are plump and well developed. For dried beans, harvest when most pods have turned brown and dried, then remove the seeds and allow them to dry completely before storage.
