Description

Lavender Vera is a classic heirloom lavender variety prized for its fragrant violet-blue flower spikes, silvery-green foliage, and calming aroma. Renowned for its high essential oil content, it is widely used for herbal teas, aromatherapy, sachets, soaps, candles, dried flower arrangements, and pollinator-friendly gardens. This drought-tolerant perennial thrives in sunny locations and performs well during the UAE’s cooler growing season.

When to Plant in the UAE

  • Indoors: Start seeds indoors in August.
  • Outdoors: Transplant seedlings or direct sow from October through December, when temperatures are cool.

Planting & Care Tips

  • Light & Soil: Plant in full sun in well-draining, sandy or loamy soil with a neutral to slightly alkaline pH.
  • Depth & Germination: Sow seeds 0.2–0.5 cm deep. Germination typically occurs within 14–28 days.
  • Spacing: Space plants 45–60 cm apart, with 60–90 cm between rows.
  • Watering: Keep the soil lightly moist during germination and establishment. Once established, water deeply but infrequently, allowing the soil to dry between waterings.
  • Feeding: Mix compost into the soil before planting. Lavender requires very little fertilizer and performs best in moderately fertile soil.
  • Harvest: Flower spikes are ready to harvest approximately 90–120 days after planting, just as the first flowers begin to open.
  • Harvesting Tips: Cut flower stems in the morning after the dew has dried. Hang bundles upside down in a cool, dry, well-ventilated place to preserve fragrance and color.
