Description
Burmese Sour Tomato (Solanum lycopersicum) is a heritage tomato variety from Myanmar, traditionally associated with Yangon. The fruits are medium to large, bright red and dramatically ribbed, with a slightly flattened, irregular shape and a distinctive mini-pumpkin appearance. Fruits typically weigh around 150–300 g (5–10 oz).
Unlike sweeter tomato varieties, Burmese Sour is prized for its pronounced tangy, tart and savory flavor. It is especially excellent for Burmese-style tomato salads, curries, sauces, stews and cooking, while also making an interesting slicing tomato. The plants are vigorous, productive and indeterminate, reaching around 1.5 m or more and benefiting from strong support.
