Description
Wee-Be-Little Pumpkin is a delightful open-pollinated miniature pumpkin variety and an All-America Selections winner. The plants produce attractive, round to slightly flattened, bright-orange pumpkins with subtle ribbing and sturdy, dark stems.
The pumpkins typically measure around 3–3½ inches (7.5–9 cm) across and weigh approximately 10–14 oz (280–400 g). Their miniature size makes them especially popular for autumn displays, decorating, painting, and children’s activities, while the thick, sweet flesh is also suitable for cooking and baking.
The relatively compact bush/semi-bush growth habit makes Wee-Be-Little a practical choice for home gardens where space is limited.
When to Plant in the UAE
- Direct sowing: Plant seeds outdoors from September to October.
- Growing season: Best grown during the UAE’s cooler growing season.
- Choose a sunny location with plenty of room for the plant to spread.
Planting & Care Tips
- Sunlight: Full sun, ideally 6–8 hours daily.
- Soil: Fertile, rich, well-draining soil with plenty of organic matter.
- Sowing depth: Approximately 2–3 cm deep.
- Germination: Usually 7–10 days under suitable conditions.
- Spacing: Allow approximately 90–120 cm between plants, depending on available space.
- Watering: Keep soil consistently moist, especially during flowering and fruit development, while avoiding waterlogging.
- Feeding: Incorporate compost before planting and use a balanced fertilizer during active growth. Avoid excessive nitrogen, which can encourage foliage at the expense of fruit production.
- Pollination: Bees and other pollinators are important for fruit set. Avoid spraying insecticides while flowers are open.
- Support: The compact plant is suitable for smaller gardens, but allow sufficient room for its branches and vines to spread.
- Harvest: Harvest when the pumpkins have reached their mature bright-orange color and the stems begin to dry. Handle carefully to avoid damaging the fruit.
- Uses: Excellent for decoration, painting, carving, autumn displays, baking, and individual servings.
