Description

Crenshaw Melon (Cucumis melo) is a highly prized melon variety known for its large, oval fruits, smooth golden-yellow skin, and exceptionally sweet, juicy flesh. The flesh is typically salmon-orange to peach-colored and has a rich, fragrant flavor with a refreshing sweetness.

Crenshaw is excellent for fresh eating, fruit salads, smoothies, desserts, and chilled summer dishes. The vigorous vines require plenty of space and perform best in warm growing conditions.

Planting & Care Tips

• Sow seeds directly about 1–2 cm deep in fertile, well-drained soil.
• Germination usually takes around 5–10 days in warm conditions.
• Space plants approximately 60–90 cm apart, allowing additional room for spreading vines.
• Grow in full sun.
• Add plenty of compost or well-rotted organic matter before planting.
• Keep soil consistently moist during flowering and fruit development.
• Feed with a balanced fertilizer during early growth, followed by a potassium-rich feed during fruiting.
• Allow vines to spread naturally or guide them along the edge of the growing area.
• Reduce watering as fruits approach maturity to help concentrate sweetness.
• Harvest when the skin develops its characteristic golden color, the fruit becomes strongly fragrant, and it begins to soften slightly at the blossom end.
