Description
Hummingbird and Butterfly Flower Mix is a colorful blend of flowering plants selected to create a vibrant, pollinator-friendly garden that attracts hummingbirds, butterflies, bees, and other beneficial insects. The mix produces flowers in a variety of colors, shapes, heights, and blooming periods, creating a dynamic display throughout the growing season. It is ideal for flower beds, borders, cottage gardens, containers, meadow-style plantings, and naturalized areas. The diverse flowers provide nectar and pollen while adding beauty and movement to the garden.
When to Plant in the UAE
- Outdoors: Direct sow seeds throughout October.
- Best results: Plant during the cooler growing season in a sunny location with well-draining soil.
- Avoid: Peak summer heat, as extreme temperatures can reduce germination and stress young seedlings.
Planting & Care Tips
- Light & Soil: Grow in full sun in fertile, well-draining soil enriched with compost and organic matter.
- Depth & Germination: Scatter seeds evenly over prepared soil and press them gently into the surface. Cover lightly with approximately 0.2–0.5 cm of soil. Germination time varies depending on the species included in the mix.
- Spacing: Spread seeds evenly to prevent excessive crowding. Thin dense areas once seedlings emerge to improve airflow and plant development.
- Watering: Keep the soil consistently moist during germination and early growth. Once established, water according to weather conditions and the requirements of the different plants in the mix.
- Feeding: Add compost before planting if needed. Avoid excessive nitrogen, which can encourage foliage growth at the expense of flowers.
- Flowering: Different species will flower at different times, creating a succession of blooms throughout the growing season.
- Maintenance: Remove spent flowers to encourage continued blooming, or allow some plants to produce seeds for natural reseeding.
- Pollinators: The diverse flowers provide nectar and pollen for butterflies, bees, hummingbirds, and other beneficial wildlife.
