Description
Red Centiflor Tomato is a productive heirloom variety known for its abundant clusters of small, bright red cherry tomatoes and excellent sweet flavor. The round fruits are juicy, tender, and typically measure around 2–3 cm in diameter, making them perfect for fresh snacking, salads, sandwiches, pasta dishes, roasting, and garnishes. This vigorous, indeterminate variety produces long trusses filled with fruit throughout the season and performs exceptionally well during the UAE’s cooler growing season.
When to Plant in the UAE
- Indoors: Start seeds indoors in August.
- Outdoors: Transplant seedlings in early October, when temperatures begin to cool.
Planting & Care Tips
- Light & Soil: Plant in full sun in fertile, well-draining soil enriched with compost.
- Depth & Germination: Sow seeds 0.5 cm deep. Germination typically occurs within 5–10 days in warm soil.
- Spacing: Space plants 60–75 cm apart, with 90–120 cm between rows.
- Watering: Keep the soil consistently moist, especially during flowering and fruit development, while avoiding waterlogged conditions.
- Feeding: Apply compost before planting and feed with a balanced tomato fertilizer every 2–3 weeks. Increase potassium during flowering and fruiting to encourage abundant production.
- Harvest: Fruits are ready to harvest approximately 65–80 days after transplanting, when they are fully red, glossy, and firm.
- Harvesting Tips: Harvest fruit clusters regularly using clean pruners or gently pick individual ripe fruits. Provide strong stakes, trellises, or cages to support the vigorous plants and heavy fruit clusters.
