Product Summary

Dr. Wyche’s Yellow Tomato (Solanum lycopersicum) is a striking heirloom beefsteak tomato known for its large, smooth golden-yellow fruits and exceptionally rich, sweet flavor. This open-pollinated variety produces meaty, juicy tomatoes with a beautiful golden color and a mild, low-acid taste.

Description

Dr. Wyche’s Yellow is a treasured American heirloom tomato with a fascinating history. The variety was named after Dr. John Wyche, a South Carolina physician and gardener who was also known for collecting and growing unusual heirloom plants.

The fruits are large, round to slightly flattened, with smooth golden-yellow skin and dense, meaty flesh. Individual tomatoes can commonly reach around 450–900 g, with some fruits growing even larger under good conditions.

Its flavor is one of its greatest qualities: rich, sweet and fruity with relatively low acidity. The attractive golden color and excellent flavor make it a superb tomato for fresh slicing, sandwiches, salads and other fresh dishes.

Plants are indeterminate and vigorous, producing fruit over an extended season. Strong staking, caging or trellising is recommended to support the plants and their large fruit.
