Description

Anaheim Chili Pepper is a popular variety known for its long, tapered fruits that mature from glossy green to bright red. It has a rich, slightly sweet flavor with mild to medium heat (500–2,500 Scoville Heat Units), making it an excellent choice for roasting, stuffing, grilling, salsas, sauces, and everyday cooking.

When to Plant in the UAE

  • Indoors: Start seeds indoors in mid-July, keeping soil temperatures between 24–30°C for reliable germination.
  • Outdoors: Transplant seedlings outdoors by mid-October, once nighttime temperatures remain above 15°C, avoiding the extreme summer heat.

Planting & Care Tips

  • Light & Soil: Plant in a location that receives 6–8 hours of full sun daily. Use fertile, well-draining soil with a neutral to slightly acidic pH.
  • Depth & Germination: Sow seeds 0.5 cm deep. Germination typically takes 10–21 days in warm soil.
  • Spacing: Space plants 45–60 cm apart, with 60–90 cm between rows to ensure good airflow.
  • Watering: Keep the soil consistently moist but not waterlogged, especially during flowering and fruit development.
  • Feeding: Apply a balanced fertilizer at transplanting, then switch to a fertilizer higher in potassium when fruits begin to develop for improved yields.
  • Harvest: Harvest green peppers about 70–80 days after transplanting, or allow them to ripen to bright red in 90–100 days for a sweeter, richer flavor.
  • Handling: Anaheim peppers have mild to medium heat, so gloves are generally not required, though washing your hands after handling is recommended, especially before touching your face or eyes.
