Description

Fenugreek is a fast-growing heirloom herb prized for its aromatic leaves and nutritious golden seeds. The tender leaves have a distinctive, slightly nutty flavor and are widely used in curries, breads, soups, salads, and traditional Middle Eastern and Indian cuisine. Mature seeds are commonly used as a spice and in herbal remedies. This productive variety thrives during the UAE’s cool growing season and is suitable for gardens, raised beds, and containers.

When to Plant in the UAE

  • Outdoors: Direct sow seeds from October through February, when temperatures are cool.
  • Successive Planting: Sow every 2–3 weeks throughout the season for a continuous harvest of fresh leaves.

Planting & Care Tips

  • Light & Soil: Grow in full sun to partial shade in fertile, well-draining soil enriched with organic matter.
  • Depth & Germination: Sow seeds 1–2 cm deep. Germination typically occurs within 3–7 days.
  • Spacing: Space plants 10–15 cm apart, with 20–30 cm between rows.
  • Watering: Keep the soil consistently moist during establishment, then water regularly while avoiding waterlogged conditions.
  • Feeding: Mix compost into the soil before planting. Fenugreek requires very little additional fertilizer due to its ability to fix nitrogen.
  • Harvest: Harvest young leaves in 25–35 days. For seeds, allow pods to mature and dry on the plant in approximately 90–110 days.
  • Harvesting Tips: Harvest outer leaves regularly to encourage fresh growth, or cut the entire plant while young for tender greens.
