Description

Pineapple Tomato is a striking heirloom variety prized for its large, beefsteak-style fruits with golden-yellow skin and beautiful red-orange marbling inside. The fruits typically weigh 300–700 g and have a rich, sweet, fruity flavor with a mild acidity. The juicy, meaty flesh and relatively few seeds make it excellent for fresh slicing, salads, sandwiches, and gourmet dishes. This vigorous, indeterminate variety performs particularly well during the UAE’s cooler growing season.

When to Plant in the UAE

  • Outdoors: Start seeds in August and transplant seedlings in early October, when temperatures begin to cool.

Planting & Care Tips

  • Light & Soil: Plant in full sun in fertile, well-draining soil enriched with compost.
  • Depth & Germination: Sow seeds 0.5 cm deep. Germination typically occurs within 5–10 days in warm soil.
  • Spacing: Space plants 60–75 cm apart, with 90–120 cm between rows.
  • Watering: Keep the soil consistently moist, especially during flowering and fruit development, while avoiding waterlogged conditions.
  • Feeding: Apply compost before planting and feed with a balanced tomato fertilizer every 2–3 weeks. Increase potassium during flowering and fruiting to support large, flavorful fruits.
  • Support: Provide strong stakes, cages, or trellises, as the vigorous indeterminate plants can become heavy with large fruits.
  • Harvest: Fruits are typically ready approximately 75–90 days after transplanting, when they develop their characteristic golden color and begin to soften slightly.
  • Harvesting Tips: Harvest regularly using clean pruners or gently twist ripe fruits from the vine. Allow fully ripe fruits to develop their best sweetness and flavor.
