الوصف
Description
Cynoglossum amabile, or Chinese Forget‑Me‑Not, is a charming annual (sometimes biennial) known for clusters of sky-blue (plus pink or white) five-petaled flowers perched atop sturdy stems (~50 cm tall). Valued for cut and pollinator gardens, it blooms the same year it is sown—a delightful meadow or border element. It can self-seed generously.
When to Plant in the UAE
Direct Sowing (Recommended): Sow in October, when soil is still warm (approx. 25–35 °C), giving the plant time to establish before cooler winter months.
Indoor Sowing (Optional): Start seeds indoors 6–8 weeks before September (i.e., mid-July–August), then transplant.
Planting & Care Guide
| Key Area | Recommendations & Details |
|---|---|
| Soil & Sun | Thrives in full sun or partial shade (especially afternoon shade in heat), in loamy, well-drained soil—avoid heavy clay. |
| Sowing Depth | Sow seeds 5 mm (0.5 cm) deep. Seedlings appear in 7–14 days at 18–22 °C (germination may begin in a week). |
| Spacing | Space seedlings 25–60 cm apart (RHS suggests 0.1–0.5 m). |
| Watering | Keep soil evenly moist but not waterlogged; overwatering leads to fungal issues like powdery mildew. |
| Airflow | Ensure good spacing for air circulation to prevent mildew. |
| Maintenance | Deadhead spent blooms to extend flowering and reduce reseeding. For self-seeding beds, leave some to set seed. |
| Pests & Diseases | Generally pest-free; vulnerable to powdery/downy mildew in humid conditions—mitigate by airflow and careful watering. |
| Harvesting | Harvest stems when florets begin to open; they make excellent cut flowers with multi-week vase life. |
