Description
Dark Green Flat Leaf Parsley is a productive herb variety prized for its abundant, deeply colored green leaves and fresh, robust parsley flavor. The flat, tender leaves are easy to chop and are excellent for salads, tabbouleh, sauces, soups, marinades, stuffing, and fresh garnishes. This versatile biennial herb grows in a compact clump and is well suited to containers, raised beds, herb gardens, and kitchen gardens. It performs particularly well in the UAE during the cooler growing season.
When to Plant in the UAE
- Indoors: Start seeds indoors in August.
- Outdoors: Transplant seedlings or direct sow from early October through December.
- Avoid: Peak summer planting outdoors, as extreme heat can make establishment difficult and encourage premature flowering.
Planting & Care Tips
- Light & Soil: Grow in full sun to partial shade in fertile, well-draining soil enriched with compost and organic matter.
- Depth & Germination: Sow seeds 0.5–1 cm deep. Parsley can germinate slowly, typically taking 14–28 days. Keep the soil consistently moist during this period.
- Spacing: Thin or transplant seedlings to 15–20 cm apart, with 20–30 cm between rows.
- Watering: Keep the soil consistently moist but not waterlogged, especially during germination and active leaf production.
- Feeding: Add compost before planting and apply a balanced organic fertilizer every 4–6 weeks during active growth.
- Harvest: Begin harvesting approximately 70–90 days after sowing, once plants have developed a strong cluster of leaves.
- Harvesting Tips: Harvest the outer stems first by cutting them close to the base. Avoid removing more than one-third of the plant at a time to encourage continuous regrowth.
- Maintenance: Remove yellow or damaged leaves regularly. Allowing some plants to flower in the second year can provide seeds for future planting and attract beneficial insects.
