Description

Pepperoncini Pepper is a popular Mediterranean heirloom pepper known for its mild heat, slightly sweet flavor, and crisp texture. The slender, tapered fruits typically grow 5–10 cm long and mature from light green to bright red. With a heat level of 100–500 Scoville Heat Units (SHU), Pepperoncini is perfect for pickling, salads, sandwiches, pizzas, antipasto platters, and fresh eating.

When to Plant in the UAE

  • Indoors: Start seeds indoors in mid-July, keeping soil temperatures between 24–30°C for reliable germination.
  • Outdoors: Transplant seedlings outdoors by mid-October, once nighttime temperatures consistently remain above 15°C, avoiding the extreme summer heat.

Planting & Care Tips

  • Light & Soil: Plant in a location that receives 6–8 hours of full sun daily. Use fertile, well-draining soil with a neutral to slightly acidic pH.
  • Depth & Germination: Sow seeds 0.5 cm deep. Germination typically takes 10–21 days in warm soil.
  • Spacing: Space plants 45–60 cm apart, with 60–90 cm between rows to ensure good airflow.
  • Watering: Keep the soil consistently moist but not waterlogged, especially during flowering and fruit development.
  • Feeding: Apply a balanced fertilizer at transplanting, then feed again with a potassium-rich fertilizer when fruits begin to set for higher yields.
  • Harvest: Harvest green peppers approximately 65–75 days after transplanting, or allow them to ripen to bright red in 85–95 days for a sweeter flavor.
  • Handling: Pepperoncini peppers are very mild, so gloves are not required during harvesting or preparation.
