Description
Coriander is a fast-growing, aromatic herb with delicate, feathery leaves used widely in cooking. Also known as cilantro (especially in its leafy form), the plant produces both edible leaves and seeds. The fresh leaves add flavor to salads, curries, and chutneys, while its seeds are often used as a spice.
When to Plant in the UAE
Direct Sowing: Best sown outdoors from early October to February, when daytime temperatures range between 18°C to 30°C.
Coriander prefers cooler weather and tends to bolt (go to seed) quickly in heat, so avoid planting during peak summer months.
Planting & Care Tips
Sunlight: Partial sun to full sun (especially in cooler months)
Soil: Loose, well-drained, and fertile soil enriched with compost
Sowing Depth: Sow seeds 0.5 to 1 cm deep
Spacing: Thin plants to 10–15 cm apart once sprouted
Watering: Keep soil moist but not soggy, especially during germination (7–14 days)
Harvesting: Begin harvesting leaves when plants reach 10–15 cm tall; for seeds, allow the plant to flower and dry out
