Common English Thyme is a classic heirloom culinary herb prized for its small, aromatic green leaves, compact growth, and rich earthy flavor. • Light & Soil: Grow in full sun to partial shade in light, well-draining soil. Avoid heavy or waterlogged soil.
• Depth & Germination: Sow seeds on the soil surface or lightly press them into the soil. Do not cover deeply, as thyme seeds need light to germinate. Germination typically occurs within 14–21 days.
• Spacing: Space plants 20–30 cm apart, with 30–45 cm between rows.
• Watering: Keep the soil lightly moist during germination and establishment. Once established, allow the soil to dry slightly between waterings.
• Feeding: Add a small amount of compost before planting. Avoid excessive fertilizer, as overly rich soil can reduce the concentration of essential oils and flavor.
• Harvest: Begin harvesting approximately 70–90 days after sowing, once plants are well established. Regular harvesting encourages bushier growth.
• Harvesting Tips: Cut the leafy stems just above a leaf node using clean scissors. Harvest in the morning after the dew has dried for the best aroma and flavor.
