Description

Lance-Leaved Coreopsis is a cheerful, easy-to-grow flowering plant known for its bright yellow, daisy-like flowers and slender, lance-shaped foliage. The abundant blooms bring a vibrant splash of color to flower beds, borders, cottage gardens, containers, and naturalized landscapes. The flowers attract bees, butterflies, and other beneficial pollinators, making it an excellent choice for wildlife-friendly gardens. Once established, Lance-Leaved Coreopsis is relatively drought tolerant and performs well in sunny conditions.

When to Plant in the UAE

  • Outdoors: Direct sow seeds throughout October.
  • Avoid: Peak summer heat, as extreme temperatures can make germination and establishment difficult and reduce flowering.

Planting & Care Tips

  • Light & Soil: Grow in full sun in fertile, well-draining soil. It can tolerate moderately poor soil once established.
  • Depth & Germination: Sow seeds approximately 0.3–0.5 cm deep and cover lightly with soil. Germination typically occurs within 10–20 days.
  • Spacing: Space plants 20–30 cm apart, with 30–45 cm between rows.
  • Watering: Keep the soil consistently moist during germination and early growth. Once established, water moderately and allow the soil to dry slightly between watering.
  • Feeding: Add compost before planting. Avoid excessive fertilizer, especially high-nitrogen fertilizer, which can encourage foliage instead of flowers.
  • Flowering: Plants generally begin flowering approximately 60–90 days after sowing, depending on growing conditions.
  • Deadheading: Remove spent flowers regularly to encourage continued blooming and maintain a tidy appearance.
  • Pollinators: The bright yellow flowers attract bees, butterflies, and other beneficial insects.
  • Maintenance: Allow some flowers to mature and produce seeds if you want the plant to naturally reseed.
