Description

Orangeglo Watermelon is a striking heirloom watermelon variety known for its large, elongated fruits and brilliant orange flesh. The fruits have a sweet, juicy flavor with a refreshing tropical character, making them excellent for fresh eating, fruit platters, juices, and summer salads. The pale green skin features darker green striping, while the vivid orange flesh creates a beautiful contrast when sliced. When to Plant in the UAE

• Indoors: Start seeds indoors in January.
• Outdoors: Transplant seedlings or direct sow seeds in late February, when temperatures are suitable for warm-season growth.
• Avoid: Peak summer heat for young plants, as extreme temperatures can affect flowering, pollination, fruit set, and plant growth.

Planting & Care Tips

• Light & Soil: Grow in full sun in fertile, loose, well-draining soil enriched with compost and organic matter.
• Depth & Germination: Sow seeds approximately 2–3 cm deep. Germination typically occurs within 4–10 days under warm conditions.
• Spacing: Space plants approximately 90–120 cm apart, with 180–240 cm between rows, or provide enough room for the vines to spread.
• Watering: Keep the soil consistently moist during germination, vine growth, flowering, and fruit development. Avoid both prolonged dryness and waterlogged soil.
• Feeding: Add mature compost before planting and apply an organic fertilizer suitable for fruiting crops during active growth and flowering.
• Pollination: Bees and other pollinators are important for fruit production. Encourage pollinator activity by maintaining a healthy garden environment.
• Support: Allow vines to spread along the ground. If grown vertically, provide strong trellising and support developing fruits.
• Harvest: Fruits typically mature approximately 85–100 days after sowing, depending on growing conditions. Look for a dried tendril near the fruit stem and a yellow or creamy ground spot where the watermelon rests on the soil.
• Harvesting Tips: Cut the watermelon from the vine with clean pruners, leaving a short section of stem attached. Allow the fruit to fully mature on the vine for the best sweetness and flavor.
