Description

Red Noodle Bean is a striking heirloom variety prized for its long, slender burgundy-red pods that can reach 35–50 cm in length. The tender pods have a mild, slightly sweet flavor and crisp texture, making them excellent for stir-fries, steaming, sautéing, curries, salads, and fresh cooking. The vibrant red pods are especially attractive in the garden and retain much of their color when lightly cooked. This vigorous climbing variety produces abundant harvests and performs exceptionally well in the UAE’s warm growing conditions.

When to Plant in the UAE

  • Outdoors: Direct sow seeds in early September and again in early March for the best results.

Planting & Care Tips

  • Light & Soil: Plant in full sun in fertile, well-draining soil enriched with compost.
  • Depth & Germination: Sow seeds 2–3 cm deep. Germination typically occurs within 5–10 days in warm soil.
  • Spacing: Space plants 20–30 cm apart, with 60–90 cm between rows.
  • Support: Provide a strong trellis or climbing support at least 1.8–2 m tall, as the vigorous vines can grow several meters long.
  • Watering: Keep the soil consistently moist, especially during flowering and pod development, while avoiding waterlogged conditions.
  • Feeding: Apply compost before planting. Avoid excessive nitrogen, as it can encourage leafy growth at the expense of pod production.
  • Harvest: Pods are ready to harvest approximately 60–75 days after sowing, preferably when they are young, tender, and about 30–45 cm long.
  • Harvesting Tips: Harvest pods every 2–3 days to encourage continuous flowering and production. Use clean scissors or pruners to avoid damaging the vines.
