Description

Serrano Tampiqueño Pepper is a classic Mexican heirloom variety prized for its slender, cylindrical fruits and bright, fresh flavor. The peppers typically grow 5–8 cm long and mature from glossy green to vibrant red. With a heat level of 10,000–25,000 Scoville Heat Units (SHU), Serrano Tampiqueño delivers a clean, crisp heat that is ideal for fresh salsas, hot sauces, pickling, and everyday cooking.

When to Plant in the UAE

  • Indoors: Start seeds indoors in mid-July, keeping soil temperatures between 24–30°C for reliable germination.
  • Outdoors: Transplant seedlings outdoors by mid-October, once nighttime temperatures consistently remain above 15°C, avoiding the extreme summer heat.

Planting & Care Tips

  • Light & Soil: Plant in a location that receives 6–8 hours of full sun daily. Use fertile, well-draining soil with a neutral to slightly acidic pH.
  • Depth & Germination: Sow seeds 0.5 cm deep. Germination typically takes 10–21 days in warm soil.
  • Spacing: Space plants 45–60 cm apart, with 60–90 cm between rows to ensure good airflow and healthy growth.
  • Watering: Keep the soil consistently moist, especially during flowering and fruit development, while avoiding waterlogged conditions.
  • Feeding: Apply a balanced fertilizer at transplanting, then feed again with a potassium-rich fertilizer when fruits begin to set to encourage abundant harvests.
  • Harvest: Harvest green peppers approximately 70–80 days after transplanting, or allow them to ripen to bright red in 90–100 days for a sweeter, richer flavor.
  • Handling: Serrano peppers are quite hot, so wearing gloves during harvesting or cutting is recommended. Wash your hands thoroughly after handling and avoid touching your eyes or face.
