Description

Big Max Pumpkin (Cucurbita maxima) is a giant pumpkin variety known for producing enormous, round to slightly flattened orange fruits. With proper care, the pumpkins can reach impressive sizes, making this variety a favorite for garden competitions, seasonal displays, carving, and autumn decorations.

The vigorous vines require plenty of space and benefit from rich, fertile soil and consistent moisture. The thick, orange flesh can also be used for cooking when harvested at a suitable stage.

Planting & Care Tips

• Sow seeds directly about 2–3 cm deep in fertile, well-drained soil.
• Germination usually takes around 5–10 days in warm conditions.
• Allow at least 1.5–2 m between plants, with plenty of additional space for the vines to spread.
• Grow in full sun.
• Enrich the soil generously with compost or well-rotted organic matter before planting.
• Water deeply and consistently during vine growth and fruit development.
• Feed regularly with a balanced organic fertilizer, increasing potassium during fruit development.
• Limit the number of developing fruits if you want to encourage larger pumpkins.
• Place developing pumpkins on a board, straw, or other dry surface to keep them off wet soil.
• Harvest when the pumpkin reaches its mature orange color and the stem begins to dry and harden.
